The real Vlad Dracula was fond of a White wine, what we currently know as the tokay wine from Hungary, made out of grapes attacked by fungus.
Even though we all know that the famous Vampire Dracula does not drink anything else but its victims blood, the real Vlad Dracula, the one who lived in the XV century in Transylvania, Rumania, was very fond of a sweet hungarian wine, the Tokay.
Before being immortal as a vampire, Vlad Tepes, more known as Dracula (Vlad Draculs son, Transylvanias hungry governor) became famous for his ability of killing Turkish enemies.
Tokay is an amber color wine very characteristic for being elaborated with grapes attacked by a special fungus called “botrytis”. The wars against Turkish provoked a delayed harvest, not until the end of October. This helped the appearance of this fungus “botrytis”. This fungus penetrates the grape, drying it out and concentrating its sugar content. The results of this phenomenon are noble wines of excellent quality and reputation.
