WINERY ON SALE
30.01.2012
WINERY IN SPAIN
In 2002, the winery in the Levante Area in southeast Spain, was acquired by the currents owners.
The property covers 175 hectares, which includes houses, historic buildings, such as an old winery, which dates back to 1888, and the current vinification facility built in 1978.
The area where the winery is situated is recognized for its extraordinary potential. The objective of the winery has always been to produce great wines that fully express the character of the terroir. The facilities are updated with state-of-the-art equipment, the vineyards have been restructured, adding acres of new vines, and several lines of appellation-controlled fine wines has been created.
The winery and its vineyards are located in the highlands above a town, at an average altitude of 550 m above sea level. The area receives scarce rainfall and abundant sunlight. During the summer growing season, temperatures vary significantly, from blistering hot during the day, to mild or cool at night. The soil is poor, gravelly and sandy, with a base of limestone and clay. These elements combine to produce deep rooted, louse resistant vines, which yield low quantities of optimally ripened and concentrated fruit.
The Monastrell grape, also known by its French name as Mourvedre, is native to the region and flourishes under its combination of climatic conditions, soil, and altitude. It?s been the region s main crop for the past 2,000 years; in fact the Romans produced wine from this grape back when their empire occupied the area.
The property s 55 planted hectares are divided into 7 distinct plots, which are individually monitored and processed, from cultivation to final blending, in order to guarantee the quality of the final product. The vineyard s privileged location allows for the slow maturation of grapes, essential in producing wines that are high in tannins, aromatic, well-structured and apt for barrel aging. We produce 4 grape varieties on our estate; these are Monastrell, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot.
