Some weeks ago the III World Congress on Climate Change and Wine was held in Marbella, Malaga, Spain, where experts from the wine industry, climate change community and representatives of the foodservice industry (HORECA) attended.
Former United Nations General Secretary and Peace Nobel Prize, Kofi Annan, the chief exponent of this event stressed the importance of companies that "help to develop new green technologies and ensure to share it with developing countries".
Kofi Annan, under the premise of "Global Agreement: a world business challenge to become a leader in sustainable development", said "the global and green economy is as important as the Industrial Revolution was in the past" and companies that fit "will be the winners."
He also believes that climate change "policy has gained the attention it deserves," although he qualified that there still exists "lack of appropriate action to confront the problem."
During the conference, Annan also said that climate change "seems a threat to our health because in warmer climates, diseases will spread faster" and warned about the danger in food supply because "drought will incapacitate fertile areas more plant breeding. "
"It is dangerous to peace and security" because "the change in rainfall patterns may cause migration" that can lead to conflicts between countries, he said.
