The wines from El Bierzo are wines protected by their Origin Denomination (DO) since 1989. This region has its headquarters in Cacabelos, El Bierzo region (west of León Province, in Castilla y León, Spain)

The place where the vineyards are located is the Sil River Valley and the production of these wines are protected by this DO and only allow certain grapes to be used.

El Bierzo has a special climate ideal for grape growing. This wine sector in El Bierzo was very important 2000 years ago as it is mentioned by Plinio and Estrabon when they refer to the existence of vineyards at the current region of El Bierzo.

On the one hand, Romans exceptionally promoted grape growing and the medieval monasteries contributed with its expansion on the other hand.

Wine production protected by DO El Bierzo can only be done with authorized grape varieties. Within red types we can enhance Mencia. This red grape variety produces excellent red wines regarding power and diversity of primary aromas, reaching soft and velvety wines of very good quality. Among white grape varieties, we can mention Doña Blanca and Godello.

In Globaliquors Portfolio we have included many of these products. Please contact us at info@globaliquors to get more details of these Spanish wines.
