Considered as the cradle of Portugal and its Vinhos Verdes, the European Culture Capital 2012 will be the headquarters of the nineteenth edition of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.
Since 2006, this international competition each year travels to a different city. This is the second visit to Portugal of this European competition.
In Luxembourg this year, Portugal was distinguished in fourth position behind France, Spain and Italy, demonstrating the remarkable dynamism of the Portuguese wine branch.
Unique event for their undisputed barometer of health of the wine sector, the competition is an annual snapshot of the international wine industry, in addition of detecting and confirming any changes in trends.
This experience confirms the following: the dominant position of France, the dynamism of exports from Spain, an international trend towards specialization of varietals, in general terms a trend towards rounder and softer wines, and finally, the alcohol average rate for wines increases and reaches 13.28%.
